2019 Trooper of the Year

Trooper Mithil Patel

On December 3, 2018, Trooper Mithil Patel was conducting a crash investigation on I-95 in Martin County. He and a civilian were standing on the emergency shoulder adjacent to the northbound lanes when a secondary crash occurred. This caused a vehicle to rotate out of control towards Trooper Patel and the civilian. At the last moment, Trooper Patel pushed the civilian out of the vehicle’s path preventing him from being hit. Trooper Patel was struck by the vehicle and was propelled into the air. Trooper Patel received incapacitating injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
