A certificate of title is the proof of ownership to a motor vehicle,
mobile home or vessel in Florida. Florida law requires most vehicles
to be titled and registered. The exceptions to titling are mopeds,
motorized bicycles, and trailers weighing less than 2,000 pounds.
A certificate of title is required when you purchase a new vehicle,
mobile home or vessel, bring a vehicle, mobile home or vessel into
the state, or any time the ownership of a vehicle, mobile home or
vessel changes. You can apply for a title at any county
tax collector’s office in Florida.
Florida issues titles as either paper title or electronic
titles. Since August 2007, titles issued through dealer sales
involving a lien holder are electronic.
