How can I get a clearance letter?

The Division of Driver Licenses no longer issues routine clearance letters to individuals applying for a license in another state. Jurisdictions have access to the Problem Driver Pointer System, which provides on-line access and a letter of clearance is no longer needed.

The Division continues to deal with special or unusual circumstances as they occur. Customer questions should be directed to our Customer Services Center at (850) 617-2000.

How can I get a copy of my driving record?

This information is not available from this department via the Internet. However, it may be available from private vendors.

To obtain a copy of a driving record from your county court clerk, see the list of court clerks who provide this service.

To obtain a copy of a driving record from this department, please submit a written request which includes the individual's full name, date of birth or approximate age, social security number, Florida driver license number (if available) and the address where to send the record, along with the appropriate fee to:

There are errors on my driver license record. How can I get them corrected?

Contact our Customer Service Center at (850) 617-2000 to have the record reviewed. Corrections, if any, will be processed as quickly as possible.

My driver license/ID Card was stolen/lost/destroyed -- what can I do?

United States Citizen or Immigrant:

You can apply for a duplicate online by using the GoRenew, if your citizenship has been established on your driving record.

- Or -

Go to your local driver license office and apply for a duplicate. The fee is $10 and you must present two forms of identification. The fee will be waived for a stolen license if a police report has been filed. Please have a copy of the report with you when applying for the duplicate license. (NOTE: Proof of citizenship or legal presence may be required for renewal, duplicate or replacement licenses/ID Cards. Please come prepared to present an identification document as proof of citizenship or legal presence.)

If you are temporarily out-of-state, you can receive a 90-day temporary permit. To request a permit, please write to:

Requests can also be processed by calling (850) 617-2000 or by e-mail. Please provide your full name, date of birth, social security number, Florida driver license number and an out-of-state address. You must return to Florida to be issued a duplicate driver license/ID Card. There is no fee for the permit.

Non-Immigrant: If you are in Florida, you must go to your local driver license office and apply for a duplicate. The fee is $10 and you must present proof of legal presence. The fee will be waived for a stolen license if a police report has been filed. Please have a copy of the report with you when applying for the duplicate license.

Military personnel stationed outside of Florida may apply for a duplicate online by using the GoRenew or through the mail. Please contact our Customer Service Center at (850) 617-2000 or by e-mail. A 90-day temporary permit will be mailed to you along with duplicate license instructions.

Can I renew my license/ID Card online?

United States Citizens only: Just use the GoRenew. Driver license renewals (not ID Cards) can also be done by phone or by mail. If eligible to renew by mail, you will be sent a renewal application about 45 days before your birthday. Just return the application along with the appropriate fee in the enclosed envelope. An extension sticker or new license will be sent to you. As part of the "motor-voter" process you can complete an on-line voter registration application for an initial registration in your county of residence or make changes (i.e.,address change) to your current registration.

NOTE: Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL), Valid in Florida Only Licenses and licenses expired over one year cannot be renewed online, by phone, or by mail. (NOTE: Proof of citizenship or legal presence may be required for renewal, duplicate or replacement licenses. Please come prepared to present an identification document as proof of citizenship or legal presence.)

Non-United States Citizens: You must apply in person at a driver license office and present proof of legal presence.

My license/ID Card is about to expire and I'm temporarily out of the state, what can I do?

You have a number of options. You can renew online. You may also contact our Customer Service Center at (850) 617-2000 or by e-mail before your birthday. A 90-day temporary permit will be mailed to you along with renewal instructions. As part of the "motor-voter" process you can complete an on-line voter registration application for an initial registration in your county of residence or make changes (i.e.,address change) to your current registration.

I'm in the military stationed outside of Florida and my license/ID Card is about to expire, do I need to renew?

Yes. You can apply online by using the GoRenew, if your citizenship has been established on your driving record.

You can request an extension of your license by writing:

Requests can also be processed by calling (850) 617-2000 or by e-mail. You will receive an extension card that will keep your Class E license valid until 90 days after your discharge from military service. Please keep the card with your license and present it with your military ID. The card is free of charge and available to all active duty members of the armed forces and their dependents (spouses, children, and step-children under 21 living in the same household).

The extension card is only available to military personnel who are stationed outside Florida and have a license which expired after July 1, 1995. If your license expired prior to July 1, 1995, you may request renewal forms to be mailed to you. As part of the "motor-voter" process you can complete an on-line voter registration application for an initial registration in your county of residence or make changes (i.e.,address change) to your current registration.

I'm in the military stationed outside of Florida and my license/ID Card was stolen/lost/destroyed. How do I get it replaced?
