Trooper Richard Added to Wall of Honor

Trooper Richard's Mother and Chelsea's plaque now on the Wall of HonorThe Florida Highway Patrol honored Trooper Chelsea Richard by adding her name to the Patrol’s Wall of Honor at FHP’s Training Academy in Havana on July 21, 2014. She is the 44th trooper to be added to the Wall.

During the ceremony, FHP Director Col. David Brierton said he was honored to be in the presence of Richard’s family, fellow troopers and 128th and 129th recruit classes. “It is a time of quiet reflection and deepest gratitude for the sacrifices of those who have left us. Today, we pause and reflect on the life and service of Chelsea Richard.”

Trooper Chelsea Richard was struck and killed by a vehicle while investigating a crash on Interstate 75 in Marion County. She was speaking with a tow truck driver and one of the occupants when another crash occurred at the same location. Trooper Richard and the tow truck driver died at the scene, the third pedestrian died later at the hospital.

Trooper Richard had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for nine years. She was survived by her 4-year-old son, parents and grandparents.
