Big Bend Coalition Against Human Trafficking Children’s Week Event

Group PhotoThe Florida Highway Patrol has teamed up with the Big Bend Coalition Against Human Trafficking (BBCAHT), a task force established by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern district of Florida.

On April 8, 2014, the BBCAHT gathered at the Capitol to bring awareness of Human Trafficking during Children’s Week at the Capitol. The goal BBCAHT is to eliminate human trafficking through awareness and education. FHP’s Lt. Col. Duarte helped with the booth and discussed the efforts in the fight against human trafficking.

Members of the task force include representatives from Governor Rick Scott’s office, Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office, Florida State University’s Center for Advancement of Human Rights, local non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations, local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and religious institutions.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, there are 27 million people enslaved worldwide. Victims of human trafficking include children, women and men who are subjected to sexual exploitation or forced labor through force, fraud or coercion.

If you are aware of any individual who is being abused or exploited, please call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.
