Trooper Van Leer Recognized by Local Agency
In early 2012, investigators from the Tallahassee Police Department became aware of a cocaine trafficking organization operating within their jurisdiction. The organization moved cocaine in kilogram quantities from Broward County, north into Tallahassee and then into South Georgia. The organization was responsible for 20 kilograms (44 pounds) of cocaine a year that was distributed in the Tallahassee and South Georgia area.
During the course of the operation and on short notice, investigators called upon VanLeer for his assistance and expertise with the ION scan. An ION scanner is a forensic instrument which measure IONs of Drugs or explosive. His commitment and dedication was integral in the successful outcome of the investigation.
VanLeer was presented with a certificate of appreciation at the ceremony by Tallahassee Police Department’s Interim Chief, Thomas Coe.
