FHP Announces Two New Majors to Lead Patrol Operations in Tallahassee and Panama City
Fast began his career with the FHP in 1994 as a duty officer and then a duty officer supervisor in Troop E, Miami. Fast was a member of the 89th Recruit Class, and his first duty assignment was in Troop D, Orlando. As a trooper, he served as a member of the Dignitary Protection Team and a sniper with the Special Response Team. He promoted to corporal in 1999 and to sergeant in 2001. In 2003, he promoted to lieutenant as a shift commander and a sub-district commander in Deland. In 2009, he promoted to captain in his most recent position as Southern Region Special Response Team commander in Troop L, Broward County.
Welch began his career with the FHP in 1982 and was a member of the 64th Recruit Class. His first duty assignment was Troop L, Fort Pierce, where he served with the troop’s Riot Squad. In 1984, he promoted to corporal and was assigned to Tampa, where he served on Troop C’s Special Response Team and as an instructor. In 1993, he promoted to sergeant in Tampa and supervised the district driving under the influence squad. In 1995, he promoted to lieutenant and spent time at the academy and then at Troop H. He promoted to captain in 2008 and became the spokesperson for the Patrol as chief of public affairs. After three years, Welch transitioned to his most recent job in the Office of Professional Compliance.
Both Fast and Welch are forward thinking leaders and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their new positions within the organization.
