Community Support during the Holidays
Members of the Florida Highway Patrol and the FHP Auxiliary serve their local communities during the holiday season and throughout the year. During the Thanksgiving holiday, members of Troop G provided Thanksgiving dinners to 13 local families in need. Troop D’s Auxiliary provided safety presentations at the 39th Annual Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach. Troop F helped in a Thanksgiving food drive for the Lee County community of Pine Manor. Troop L helped support an annual Thanksgiving turkey drive at the Boca Raton Fire Station 2 to support the fallen or injured police officers and firemen. And finally, Public Affairs Officers throughout the state conducted Thanksgiving safety interviews to prepare Florida motorists for safe holiday travels.
During the Christmas season, troopers and auxiliary troopers helped in the Shop with a Cop program that helps spread holiday cheer to local children. Troop A escorted Wreaths Across America to the Barrancas National Cemetery and helped place Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans to remember our fallen heroes. Troopers from all troops signed and sent Christmas cards to a six-year-old boy diagnosed with brain cancer. Troop D-Deland Auxiliary and Santa delivered toys and goodies at the Florida Hospital in Orlando to the children in the pediatric oncology, bone marrow transplant and critical care units.
