Troop E Recognizes Local Hero
The crash occurred when a 2006 Lamborghini traveled east on the Northwest 87th Avenue entrance ramp to eastbound SR 836 in Miami. The driver lost control and collided with a concrete median wall, causing the vehicle to overturn and burst into flames. Both the driver and the passenger were unconscious and trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Lind immediately pulled the driver to safety on the other side of the highway. Unaware that a passenger was inside the vehicle, Lind attended to the driver. When the driver regained consciousness, he asked Lind about the passenger.
With time running out and the flames growing stronger, Lind raced back to the vehicle to try to rescue the passenger. Lind successfully extricated the badly injured passenger from the blazing vehicle seconds before it exploded.
Emergency workers transported both occupants to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where the passenger died from his injuries a short time later. Medical workers indicate they expect the driver to make a full recovery.
Lind and his father, Angel Luis Lind, appeared at Florida Highway Patrol Troop E Headquarters where Lind accepted a commendation for his brave and heroic actions. Troop Commander Maj. James Brierton expressed his gratitude for Lind’s selfless actions and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation from FHP Director Col. David Brierton Nov. 30.
