Safety Event at Coast Guard Base

Sgt. Pikul facilitates the use of the DUI goggles.Sgt. Mark Wysocky and Sgt. Tom Pikul contributed to a Nov. 14 Coast Guard safety training day in Miami Beach. The training included the Coast Guard command staff, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Miami Fire-Rescue Department.

Fire and vehicle safety were the main topics in the event. It included information about driver distractions, impaired driving, motorcycles and seat belt use. A Coast Guard captain feels the impact of the seat belt convincer.Pikul discussed the dangers of drinking and driving and the benefits of using a designated driver. He also used special goggles to demonstrate the effects of being impaired.

Wysocky focused on the dangers of distracted driving, motorcycle safety and seat belt use. Several Coast Guard members took advantage of the opportunity to feel the impact of the seat belt convincer, which emphasizes the importance of seat belts.
