Major James G. Brierton Retires
Brierton was a member of the 64th recruit class, which graduated in May 1982. His first duty station was in Troop F in Fort Myers. Shortly thereafter, he transferred to Troop E in Miami, where he spent the majority of his career.
On May 12, friends, family and the Department honored Brierton during a retirement celebration at Melreese Country Club in Miami. The Patrol’s Honor Guard presented an American Flag to Col. David Brierton who then presented it to his brother, the major. Lt Col. Ernie Duarte and Col. Brierton gave Major Brierton his retirement badge and his 30 years of service certificate of appreciation. Additionally, both the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County presented proclamations naming the day, May 12, 2012, as “James G. Brierton Day” in honor of his dedication and service to the residents of South Florida.
Major Brierton was a dedicated and loyal member of the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors and thanks him for 30+ years of service.
