The Nov. 26 parade rallied more than 3,000 enthusiastic and creative participants from 120 local companies, schools, churches, social organizations and musical groups to create a community family event and fun for all ages.

The parade attracted approximately 55,000 viewers, and besides the trooper of the year, members of the Venice District, including Capt. John F. Donovan, Sgt. 1st Class Herbert R. Head and Master Cpl. Jacquline L. Stevens joined the festivities. The Venice Unit of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary also took part in handing out Florida Highway Patrol coloring books, crayons, pencils, water bottles and toys to children.

The event not only showcased the 2011 Florida Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year, who is also a long-time Venice resident, but also it featured the Patrol’s community oriented image while promoting public safety awareness.
