Trooper Apprehends Identity Theft Suspects

Trooper YuknavageOn Aug. 26, 2011, Trooper Leonard Yuknavage of the Florida Highway Patrol’s Troop G conducted a traffic stop in St. Johns County for unlawful speed. After discovering the vehicle was a rental car, Yuknavage noted the driver of the vehicle was not listed on the rental agreement. After contacting the rental car company, he received authorization to have the vehicle towed to the rental car company’s office. Upon inventorying the contents of the vehicle, the trooper discovered 48 fraudulent credit cards, 23 gift cards, 16 iPads, four cameras, numerous articles of clothing, narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The driver and passenger were arrested and booked into the St. Johns County Jail for dealing in and possession of stolen property. During the traffic stop, Yuknavage went above and beyond the call of duty and was able to stop two people who were involved in fraudulent credit card use and identity theft.
