Traffic Stop Leads to Cash Seizure
While patrolling our roadways on June 2, Cpl. Linda Banks stopped a car with two occupants for a traffic violation in Broward County. The car was registered in North Carolina, and the license for the driver was suspended in that state. Banks found a firearm in the car along with drug paraphernalia and $11,310 in cash. When questioned by Banks, the occupants gave conflicting statements concerning their trip to Florida.
Banks requested a canine unit and the Drug Enforcement Agency, which responded to assist with the investigation. Trooper Tom Winders used his dog to search the car for drugs. The dog alerted to the cash, which the DEA then seized. Banks charged the driver with driving while license suspended and with possession of drug paraphernalia. She successfully removed a firearm from the streets and while seizing a substantial amount of money used for illicit purposes.
