Newest K-9s Ready to Work
On Feb. 22, the Patrol acknowledged the efforts of our newest K-9 teams. The Patrol’s K-9 Academy recently completed their Drug Detection course in Tallahassee. The teams began their training on July 3, 2010, completing a 480 hour K9 Team Training Course which concluded in December 2010. After a short break, the teams began their second phase of training in Drug Detection, a rigorous 320 hours of instruction and performance.
While at the academy, the teams conducted more than 600 drug training searches on various vehicles, vessels, tractor trailers and buildings. Upon completion of the Academy the teams successfully passed the International Forensic Research Institute proficiency exam and are ready to hit the highways.
