ScottOn May 2, law enforcement officers from around the state converged in the courtyard at the Florida’s Capitol to honor all our officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2010. The event commemorated the loss of nine Florida law-enforcement officers last year; there were 158 law-enforcement officer deaths in the entire country. The Florida Highway Patrol lost Trooper Patrick Ambroise, who was killed when his patrol car was struck from behind while he was stopped on the shoulder of the Florida Turnpike, near Okeechobee Road. A vehicle traveling on the turnpike suddenly veered onto the shoulder and struck Ambroise’s patrol vehicle, causing it to burst into flames and trapping him inside.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s 120th Basic Recruit Class and Troop H Honor Guard along with their counterparts from numerous other state, county and city law enforcement agencies around Florida participated in the memorial march as did several bag pipe corps. After the names of each fallen officer were announced, hundreds of law enforcement officers stood at attention for the playing of taps. The parade and the memorial service were organized by the state lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police.
