FHP Participates in Construction Career Days

Trooper Kimo speaks to students.Safety World with FHP Vehicle and Road Ranger Truck.Members from Troop L and Troop K participated in the South Florida Construction Career Days. Construction Career Days is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Transportation Builders’ Association. The event is for high school and career training students to learn about careers in the highway and bridge construction industry. Students from Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Hendry counties attended the two-day event.

A Safety World section is part of the event, which includes all the aspects of dealing with a crash scene.

Aux. Trooper Najm demonstrates the DUI goggles.Aux. Trooper Cammarata speaks to students about what happens in a rollover crash.Included in Safety World are Road Rangers, EMS personnel, Tow Truck Operators, the Florida Highway Patrol Seat Belt Convincer, Rollover Simulator and DUI goggles.

The students observed how EMS personnel treat the injured, how they use the Jaws of Life to open vehicle and how the wrecker companies up right overturned vehicles and how Road Rangers clean up the scene.

The students were then shown the effects of driving while impaired with the DUI goggles and what occurs in a rollover crash. Several teachers and students rode the seat belt convincer to experience the impact of being involved in a minor crash.
