FHP Attends Police Expo for New Police Memorial
On Feb. 26, members of the Florida Highway Patrol from Troops L, K and F attended a Police Expo for the new Broward County Police Memorial at Markham Park in the city of Sunrise. The Broward County Police Memorial Wall of Fame will be built on an acre of land in Markham Park.
The memorial will have a wall of fame with the names of the law enforcement officers and K-9’s who died in the line of duty in Broward County since 1914. The names of four troopers to be included in the memorial are Troopers Phillip A. Black, Kimberly B. Hurd, Stephen G. Rouse and Donald E. Jennings. The memorial should be completed in May of 2012.
The groundbreaking ceremony began with an honor guard presentation led by FHP’s Sgt. Dwayne Cooper. The ceremony included memorial sponsors along with local dignitaries. The memorial is financed through private donations. To learn more information about the memorial, visit Honorguardinc.com.
The expo included more than 20 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies with equipment on display, K-9 and SWAT demonstrations, a 5K run/walk, live music and events for children, along with former and current Miami Dolphins football players signing autographs.
After the Miami Dolphins players finished the autograph session they visited the FHP section of the expo which included the seat belt convincer and rollover simulator along with some FHP vehicles past and present. All of the players rode the seat belt convincer and observed what happens in a rollover crash.
