Troopers Participate in Celebrate Literacy Week

Sergeant Thompson and Trooper Jones with the first grade students.Sergeant Charlotte Thompson, Sergeant Anthony Baker and Trooper Chantale Jones of Troop L participated with the Department of Education (DOE) in Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida. The Troopers along with law enforcement officers from across the state volunteered to read to elementary age students during the week of Jan. 25, 2010. One of the objectives of the week was to promote the enjoyment of reading for children and adults of all ages.

Sergeant Anthony Baker read to students at Pines Charter Elementary School in Pembroke Pines, kindergarten through second grade. Sergeant Charlotte Thompson and Trooper Chantale Jones read to first grade students at Nova Dwight Eisenhower Elementary School in Davie.

The book, A Day in the Life of a Police Officer, was supplied by the Florida Department of Education and read to all students. The Troopers distributed coloring books to the students and enjoyed answering all of their questions.

The Troopers that read to the students thought this was important to participate not only from a reading standpoint, but also they were able to project a positive image of law enforcement.
