Trooper Nabs Car-Jacker

Trooper BartholomewMarch 2010 – Trooper Jason Bartholomew, Troop G-Jacksonville, observed a red Audi traveling south on Interstate-95 driving recklessly, speeding, passing improperly and tailgating other vehicles.

Bartholomew attempted to catch up to the vehicle when the driver suddenly exited the interstate in an attempt to flee. The vehicle eventually made its way back onto the interstate, but heavy traffic made it difficult for Bartholomew to maintain contact.

As he was traveling south on I-95 searching for the red vehicle though, Bartholomew noticed the vehicle parked on the right side paved shoulder, and a green colored Toyota beside it with someone’s legs hanging out of the driver’s window. The Toyota then began to move away from the red car. The two suspects in the Audi had car-jacked a female in the Toyota in an attempt to get away.

As Bartholomew gave chase, the vehicle exited the Interstate. The carjackers forced the female behind the wheel to operate the pedals, as one of them steered the vehicle. After several attempts to get away, the vehicle suddenly stopped. Two males bolted from the vehicle and ran through a neighborhood. Bartholomew, with assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, captured them a short time later.

Recovered items include: a stolen Glock 22, a .40 caliber hand gun, a Lorgin 380, a .380 caliber hand gun, plastic bags containing cocaine, a scale and a tobacco grinder.

Bartholomew in conjunction with the JSO arrested and booked both individuals into the Duval County Jail.
