Perseverance Leads to Significant Seizure

K9 Bono assigned to Tpr. WindersRecently, Troopers Tom Winders, Francisco Sangineto, and Christopher Aguila assisted DEA Miami with an ongoing narcotics investigation. The troopers stopped a tractor trailer, believed to be trafficking in narcotics, on the turnpike near the Miami Dade/Broward county line. Once the driver was stopped a K9 search was conducted by Trooper Winders and his K9 partner Bono.

An external alert was observed by Trooper Winders and the tractor and trailer were moved to Troop E Headquarters in order to conduct a thorough search of the truck’s interior. While at the station, the three troopers diligently searched the truck and were coming up empty. Trooper Winders observed a drill which prompted him to look for fresh screws or bolts within the cabin.

Ultimately, a false compartment was located in the tractor’s ceiling and 40 kilograms of cocaine was revealed and the troopers’ hours of searching had finally paid off. The evidence and the defendant were turned over to DEA-Miami where the driver is awaiting trial on federal trafficking charges.
