National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week Highlights Important Work of Communications Centers

Comm.CenterDuring the week of April 11 – 17, 2010, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recognized the important work that the Regional Duty Officers and Duty Officer Supervisors in the Florida Highway Patrol Regional Communications Centers do to make Florida a safer state to reside and to visit.

Regional Communications Centers throughout the state celebrated National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week with cookouts, fish fries, and more! Representatives from other law enforcement organizations that RCCs dispatch for contributed, too, and took part in some of the events to show their appreciation.

Regional Duty Officers and Duty Officer Supervisors are the vital link between motorists and law enforcement officers and emergency workers. They receive calls from the public and dispatch troopers to crashes and other calls for service. In addition, they also provide dispatch services for other state law enforcement personnel. The work is challenging and crucial to the Department’s vision of a safer Florida.
