FHP Participates in Kidfest Event
Florida Highway Patrol Troop A participated in the recent Kidfest held at Gulf Coast Community College. It was a day of fun and education for community and visiting children. Several law enforcement agencies were there with all kinds of exciting information from the Bay County Sheriff and the Mobile Crime Prevention Unit with the Child ID Program to firemen from Panama City Fire Department who performed a rappelling demonstration.
Florida Highway Patrol Troop A members Trooper James Swearingin and Senior Clerk/Child Safety Technician Vicki Paul set up a tent and distributed educational information to parents and children on safety belt and child restraint safety. Trooper Swearingin used the Roll-Over Simulator to demonstrate what can happen to an unrestrained occupant during a roll-over crash.
The crash test dummy (Trooper Swearingin’s son, Kenneth) was on hand to shake hands and greet the children. Child restraints were on display to promote the program and show parents which seat was appropriate for their child. Many questions were answered and contact was made with several community outreach programs for future educational events.
