FHP Joins the Special Olympics Torch Run Event

Special Olympic athlete Saliva holds the torch as it is lit.In April, Troop F promoted the Special Olympics through Torch Run events and fundraisers. This year’s events began with a fundraiser at a local restaurant. Trooper Edward Pope and Charlotte County Sergeant W.M. Gorman teamed up to become waiters for the evening.

In appreciation for good service, diners left tips that went directly to the Special Olympics. On April 30th, the Charlotte County Torch Run began at Cochran Boulevard with the lighting of the Flame of Hope. William Saliva, a Special Olympic athlete, joined in on the third leg, which concluded the 10 mile route.

Fort Myers District troopers also participated in the Lee County Torch Run by providing support vehicles and traffic control.
