Teen Road Trip Leads To Alachua County Jail
On October 12, Trooper Jake Smith arrived to assist a disabled vehicle on Interstate 75 near Gainesville. Soon after he interviewed the 16 and 14 year old North Carolina teens about the problem with their vehicle, they both fled the area on foot.
After a closer look at the vehicle, Trooper Smith discovered it had been stolen out of Atlanta and had a hunting rifle in it. Approximately three hours later, both subjects were caught at the southbound Paynes Prairie Rest Area. During his subsequent investigation, Trooper Smith discovered this was the second vehicle the juveniles had stolen to begin their road trip.
