The Southern Region kicked off the Labor Day Holiday weekend on Friday September 4, 2009 with an enhanced enforcement effort to focus on Alligator Alley. The enforcement effort kicked off with a press conference at a rest area on Alligator Alley, drawing media outlets from southeast and southwest Florida. Several members of the press also rode along with Troopers in Broward County and Collier County.
Speakers included Southern Regional Commander Miguel Guzman, Troop F Troop Commander Major Brent Coates and Major Larry Rodgers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The enforcement effort included Contraband Interdiction Program (CIP) teams, aircraft, and Troopers from throughout the Southern Region. Also participating was the Broward County Sheriff’s Office with their Gang Task force and Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
The enforcement effort resulted in 1862 citations written, of which 804 were for speed and 633 were for Move Over violations. The CIP teams searched 11 vehicles and made three drug arrests for a total of 37 grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia.
