Nassau County Trooper Recognized for Saving Driver
The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners presented a commendation to FHP Trooper Danyen Komorek Tuesday morning, June 10, 2009, for actions beyond the call of duty that occurred on Wednesday April 15, on Interstate 95 in Yulee. The event was held at the BOCC Chambers meeting at the Government Complex in Yulee, Florida.
Nassau County Fire Rescue (NCFR) were called to I-95 because a minivan was on fire. NCFR says they found the minivan on fire in a ditch full of water. Trooper Komorek jumped in the ditch and pulled the driver out of the burning vehicle.
According to witnesses, the minivan had been swerving for many miles. Paramedics at the scene learned the driver had medical issues so they took her to Shands Jacksonville.
“We would like to extend our sincere thank you and commend FHP Trooper Komorek for putting her life on the line as she jumped into the water to get the driver out, pulled the patient from the burning vehicle, and moved the patient to safety,” said Fire Chief Chuck Cooper.
