FHP Sponsors Seat Belt Project
With the support of Troop L’s District Commander, Captain Luis Ramil, and Panther Run Principal PJ D’Aoust, this week the Florida Highway Patrol held its second seatbelt project in two years, at Panther Run Elementary School in Wellington. FHP’s Chief Surgeon Bradley Feuer provided materials which the second-grade students used in reading exercises during the week, along with teacher-led social stories and coloring of informational booklets.
Pediatrics residents from the Palm Beach Centre for Graduate Medical Education/Palms West Hospital and auxiliary troopers handed out informative fliers to parents as they dropped off their children. Corporal Gary Baker provided an information session and a demonstration using FHP’s rollover simulator followed by the FHP Chief Surgeon swearing in of the second-graders as “Junior Troopers”. He provided them with Junior Trooper Badges and had them take the “oath of seatbelt use”.
The goal of this program is, through education and enablement, to develop lifelong habitual seatbelt use in second-grade students. And, who knows, maybe some future prospects for Florida’s Finest!
