FHP Sergeant Receives Special Recognition

Sergeant Edwards, Jr. Recently Sergeant John W. Edwards, Jr. was voted as runner- up for the Manatee County Hundred Club Officer of the Year for 2008. Sergeant Edward’s nomination came from his 22 and 1/2 years of dedication and devotion to duty and his work ethic.

As a first line supervisor Sergeant Edwards achieves optimal levels of personal performance and accomplishments. He truly demonstrates and conveys a favorable image of the organization and leads by example.

Since being promoted to Sergeant on June 27, 2008, Sergeant Edwards has not only supervised his squad members in an exceptional and competent manner but he has also worked alongside of them working 1,032 hours, making 328 arrests, issuing 161 written warnings, 67 faulty equipment notices, 5 felony arrests, 51 safety belt citations and 48 speed citations all while assisting 36 disabled vehicles and investigating 102 traffic crashes.

Sergeant Edwards’ dedication to duty, positive attitude and the exceptional work ethic he displays truly sets an example for others to follow. He is to be commended for excellent service to his community, exemplifying the best traditions of the Florida Highway Patrol.
