FHP Participates in United Way Teen Driving Rally

Trooper Elliott RosenTrooper Conya BassettThe Florida Highway Patrol participated in the United Way Teen Driving Rally held at the Bergeron Rodeo grounds in Davie.

The other event sponsors included State Farm Insurance, Allstate Insurance, MADD, and the Broward Dade Safety Council.

mock fatal crash scene.The rally focused on the four highest risk driving behaviors that affect teenage drivers today such as seat belt use, speeding, drinking and driving, and talking and texting while driving.

The event featured several speakers whose lives have been affected by motor vehicle crashes along with the rollover simulator, safety information from several agencies and a mock fatal crash scene. Over 400 students from 20 high schools participated in the rally.

Alexus Alvarez.Mr. NednickAfter the rally, students that participated will make a classroom presentation about safe driving at their home school to spread the word about safe driving.

Trooper Elliott Rosen arranged for a father, Mr. David Nednick, whose son was killed in a crash, to speak to the students along with the young man, Alexus Alvarez, who was driving the vehicle in that crash. Both of them spoke about how the crash has affected their lives and how they deal with losing a son and a best friend.
