117th Recruit Class – 100% Success

FHP's 117th Graduation Class MarchingOn May 29, 2009, the 29 members of the Florida Highway Patrol’s 117th Recruit Class tackled the all-important Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission’s Officer Certification Exam.

The Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy has a long history of being ranked among the top 5 training centers in terms of success rates on the state certification exam. The members of the 117th Recruit Class did not disappoint – 100% of the class successfully obtained the certification. The achievement reflects the strong effort put forth by every member of the class. This accomplishment can also be credited to the dedication of the members of the training academy staff.

The coordinators for the 117th Recruit Class are: Lieutenant Dan Hinton, Sergeant David “Todd” Carter, and Trooper Walter Liddell. Their efforts are supported by Lieutenant Jimmie Collins, Lieutenant Nancy Rasmussen, Sergeant Robert “Bob” Boucher, Sergeant Keely Weaver, Trooper Melissa Oman, and Trooper John Castleberry. This accomplishment can also be attributed to the efforts of the non-sworn support staff who are the people behind the classroom that keep the training program together.

The 117th has been a very benevolent group of men and women. The class participated in a community service project where they helped pave and install speed bumps in the parking lot at the Pyramid Developmental Learning Center. They also represented the Florida Highway Patrol at the Special Olympics Torch Run and Law Enforcement Memorial Service earlier this year at the State Capitol. In addition, they will participate in a fund raising event on June 6 to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.

Thanks to the women and men of the 117th Recruit Class, the Florida Highway Patrol’s future certainly looks bright. Their dedication and commitment to serving the people of Florida is an inspiration to all.
