Troopers Get Certified in Crisis Intervention
Trooper Brenden Kralich (left) and Trooper Christopher Powers (right) became the first of our FHP Troopers to be certified in crisis intervention. They completed a 40 week course that teaches officers how to identify the signs of mentally ill persons and what course of action to take once an officer comes in contact with the mentally ill.
The course certifies troopers in crisis intervention, teaching them how to conduct a risk assessment and understand Baker Act issues and substance abuse problems. All too often, mentally ill people are misunderstood by law enforcement. The class teaches law enforcement officers how to properly recognize the symptoms of mental illness, and help these people get the proper treatment.
Troopers Kralich and Powers will now be available to assist other troopers in Central Florida with the knowledge they have learned.
