Trooper Honored by American Society for Industrial Security
Trooper Kenneth Frost (Troop G, Jacksonville) was honored by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International at their Heroes of the First Coast luncheon at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Trooper Frost was one of several officers from law enforcement agencies in Northeast Florida who were recognized for their heroic, valorous, and exemplary deeds.
ASIS International, founded in 1955, is the preeminent organization for security professionals with more than 35,000 members worldwide. ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address a broad security interests. On this day, ASIS honored one of our troopers for his brave actions during the following incident for which he was previously named FHP Trooper of the Month.
While off-duty in a department store in Jacksonville, Trooper Kenneth Frost heard a lady scream that she had been robbed and then observed two individuals being chased by some concerned citizens. Trooper Frost ran to his pickup truck and drove around the corner of the building. Trooper Frost drove up close to the individuals stopped exited his truck and identified himself as a police officer and verbally ordered them to stop.
The suspects ignored Trooper Frost and continued to run toward the back perimeter of the shopping center. Trooper Frost got back into his truck and pursued them a short distance again and observed the suspects throw a purse over a concrete wall. As Trooper Frost approached them on foot, one of the suspects climbed halfway over the wall while the other remained at the base of the wall. Trooper Frost grabbed the suspect at the base of the wall and detained him in the bed of his pickup truck until officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrived and took him into custody.
As additional JSO officers responded to look for the second suspect, Trooper Frost climbed the wall and observed the individual on the far side of a retention pond. Trooper Frost got back into his truck and drove around the other side of the pond and jumped out and ran down the suspect on foot and took him into custody.
Both suspects were charged with strong armed robbery and transported to the Duval County jail. The purse was also recovered and returned to the victim. If not for the alert actions by Trooper Frost, this crime may not have been solved.
