Escape to Florida? Better Think Again.
On June 5, 2008, Trooper John Lieb and Corporal Richard Noiseux received a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) from the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center regarding a gas drive off that occurred in Crestview. It was determined that the vehicle involved had been stolen and was possibly occupied by two escapees from Mississippi. The troopers anticipated that the vehicle may come their way so they headed toward the interstate to look it. At the 83 mile post in Walton County the troopers spotted the vehicle. Trooper Lieb overtook the suspect as he exited Interstate 10 and drove south on US 331. Corporal Richard Noiseux caught up with them and a felony traffic stop was initiated near Coy Loop Road. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
The suspects’ identities were confirmed as being escapees from the Pontotoc Mississippi Detention Center. Additionally, the vehicle was confirmed as stolen from the same area. Both suspects were transported to the Walton County Jail to face a multitude of charges. It was later determined that these two individuals were just two of the four escapees from the Pontotoc Detention Center on June 4, 2008. One of the escapees had been captured by US Marshals in Lafayette County Mississippi on June 6. Another was found dead 1.5 miles south of the detention center on June 9. His death was ruled a drowning, however that investigation is continuing. The actions of Trooper Lieb and Corporal Noiseux exemplify performance expected from the state troopers of the Florida Highway Patrol.
