Corporal Named Pasco Officer of the Year

Corporal ShieldsOn May 1, 2008, Florida Highway Patrol Corporal Toni Shields was recognized as Pasco County Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the West Pasco County Bar Association.

Corporal Shields, a twelve year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol, has been a traffic homicide investigator for the past three years in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties. She is a member of the Critical Stress Management Team for the Patrol. As a member of this team, she provides much needed mental health support to fellow law enforcement officers following traumatic job related and catastrophic community events.

Corporal Shields received this honor for her role in a Christmas day crash last year that claimed three lives and seriously injured two others. After an arduous investigation, Corporal Shields presented her evidence to the State Attorney’s Office. Her investigation lead to the conviction of a repeat offender for three counts of DUI Manslaughter, three counts of Vehicular Homicide, one count of DUI Serious Bodily Injury, and one count of Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury. As a result of her excellent police work, another offender is behind bars.
