You can’t hide from the eye in the sky!

Sergeant CendanOn September 8, Florida Highway Patrol Captain Cindy Williams spotted a motorcycle traveling above the posted speed limit westbound on Interstate 4 near the 48 milepost. Captain Williams attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated to over 120 miles per hour and fled westbound on I-4. With knowledge that an aircraft speed enforcement detail was occurring west of her position, Captain Williams radioed to FHP pilot Sergeant Miguel Cendan, asking him to observe for signs of the fleeing motorcyclist.

Shortly thereafter, Sgt. Cendan spotted the motorcycle and began to observe the vehicle while simultaneously directing ground units in an effort to apprehend the driver. As Sgt. Cendan followed the motorcycle, he observed reckless driving on the part of the motorist as he continued to travel at very high speeds, while passing and overtaking other traffic even on the shoulder of the road. This continued for approximately 30 minutes and progressed into Hillsborough County.

Sgt. Cendan observed as the driver turned in to a private residence and drove behind the home in order to evade troopers. Using their radios, troopers were directed by Sgt. Cendan to a perimeter around the home to capture the driver. When the driver observed that he was surrounded, he surrendered without incident to Trooper Chris Davidson, Trooper Carlos Rosario, and Corporal Bill Tindle.

The driver was arrested for aggravated fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and driving without a motorcycle endorsement. He was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail and his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle was seized pursuant to Florida’s Co
