New Guide Unveiled at Teen Safety Event
On July 17th, the Coral Reef Driver Licenses Office hosted a community outreach and media event to promote safe teen driving. The new Driving Guide for Teens and Parents was unveiled at the event while safety demonstrations emphasizing seat belt use and the dangers of impaired driving captured the crowd’s attention. The new Guide, which is provided to all teens when they receive their Learner’s Permit, contains important information about our state’s traffic laws and restrictions, as well as a special Skills Mastery Checklist and Driving Log. The Guide is also available on line at: www.flhsmv.gov/teens.
Since traffic fatalities are the number one cause of death for teens nationwide, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles continues to stress the importance of developing good driving skills and observing traffic laws and common sense safety techniques among our teen drivers. Florida Highway Patrol troopers brought their popular Seat Belt Convincer and Roll-over Simulator to the safety event to demonstrate the importance of wearing seat belts while driving and riding in a vehicle. Also at the event, FLHSMV Executive Director Electra Bustle spoke to attendees expressing our department’s commitment to reducing teen traffic fatalities by continuing to provide educational tools, such as the new Guide, for families to use when teaching their teens to drive.
