Steve Preston participated in Governor Crist’s Hazardous Weather Awareness Week Reading Tour initiative. Local agencies and officials shared safety information with students at the Spencer Bibbs Elementary School.

Lt. Preston and Trooper Fisher set up a display and shared safety information about how the Florida Highway Patrol helps during dangerous weather situations. The children were given an opportunity to see an FHP patrol vehicle up close. Trooper Fisher and Lt. Preston interacted with the children and fielded their many questions and provided them with safety promotional items.

Later in the day FHP participated in the celebrity reading portion of the program. There were many local officials and media personalities that went to the classrooms and read weather safety oriented books to help the children learn about weather safety. There were approximately 450 children in attendance. The Pensacola area was experiencing heavy thunderstorms and strong winds, making it the perfect backdrop for the event.
