Troopers Teach Safety at Area Schools
Recently, Floriday Highway Patrol troopers from Troop L visited schools in their community and provided students with safety tips. Whether its riding a bike, riding in a car or bus, or confronting a stranger, these troopers strive to cover any type of situation where a student might be faced with a harmful situation.
Ft. Pierce District Captain Deryl Loar (left) has provided the Treasure Coast district with outstanding leadership for nine years. Captain Loar has led efforts throughout various communities to better educate young drivers, civic leaders, and local politicians of the increasing dangers/incidents that are occurring on our roadways. Now, Captain Loar has encouraged area troopers to also become more involved in local school programs to educate students about traffic safety, and troopers have responded to this request admirably.
Corporal Michael Lanam and Corporal Charlie Thomas recently provided traffic safety programs to students at Liberty Magnet Elementary School and then again on the National Law Enforcement Night Out event in St. Lucie and Indian River Counties.
Corporal Stephen Rudd (right) provided safety tips from bicycle safety to how students should react when confronted by strangers, to how troopers investigate crash scenes. They also distributed educational materials and coloring books on seat belt usage. One trooper invited students to sit in the driver’s seat of his vehicle and showed them the many tools at his disposal when he is on the job. Off the job FHP troopers attend events to teach safety in their communities.
