Troopers Say NO to Drugs
Recently, two Florida Highway Patrol troopers in the Land-O-Lakes District conducted traffic stops for speeding and reckless driving. A keen sense of smell and observation led them further than the traffic infractions.
Trooper Joshua Malloy (left), while approaching a vehicle he had stopped for unlawful speed, picked up a strong odor of Marijuana.
When Trooper Malloy determined the driver was a wanted fugitive, he was taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of Marijuana and Cocaine. Along with the drugs, Trooper Malloy found three assault rifles and a loaded .45 caliber handgun under the driver’s seat!
Trooper Jacquelyn Hollis (right) was following a 2005 Cadillac sedan that seemed to have trouble maintaining a single lane. The problem was the driver was trying to drive and light a marijuana cigarette at the same time! Observing this, Trooper Hollis stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, only to find over 175 grams of marijuana hidden in the vehicle along with drug paraphernalia.
The violators went to jail, the contraband was removed from the streets, and the Cadillac was seized. It will be put to use fighting crime instead of dealing drugs. Trooper Malloy and Trooper Hollis went beyond the traffic stop and the streets are a little safer today. Good Job!
