Professors For A Day
University of South Florida Professor and retired FDLE Special Agent Jim Sewell recently invited Troop C’s Major Thomas Knight and PAO Trooper Larry Coggins to instruct a criminology class at USF on the Florida Highway Patrol’s role in Florida law enforcement.
Pictured left, Major Thomas Knight, Dr. Jim Sewell, and Trooper Larry Coggins and right, Major Knight answers a student’s question.
Major Knight and Trooper Coggins took the class on a historical journey of the FHP from the early days in the late 1930s to the present explaining our roles, structure, duties, and agency highlights. The class had an opportunity to engage in discussion regarding the FHP’s policies and procedures, as well as recruitment, training, natural disaster response, and overall mission.
Major Knight and Trooper Coggins also took the opportunity to speak to the class about a possible career with the FHP. The discussion sparked interest among the group of students who may ponder the possibility of becoming FHP troopers. FHP wishes all of them well in whatever career path they happen to choose!
