Operation Safe Streets Nets Results
Twenty-two troopers from FHP’s Contraband Interdiction Program traveled to Jacksonville to join an additional six designated troopers from Troop G to help conduct Operation Safe Streets, a joint law enforcement/criminal justice initiative created in response to the increased murder rate in Duval County.
The Operation, which was a collaboration of the Federal High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, involved twelve separate agencies including the FHP, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office, the Florida Department of Transportation, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and others.

The first operation proved successful, netting numerous significant results during its three-day deployment. The activity for the initial detail included 66 drug-related charges, 31 seizures, 30 arrests, and the confiscation of six handguns and one AK-47 assault rifle.
After the initial Operation was concluded, Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford attended a briefing at the Florida Highway Patrol Headquarters in Jacksonville to thank all of the officers involved in the detail and to outline the results for the media.
FHP’s involvement in Operation Safe Streets will include three additional operations over a three week period.
