Isle of Eight Flags Policeman’s Ball

Captain David Fachko, Lt. Bill Leeper, Chief Jim Hurley, Sheriff Tommy Seagraves FHP’s Lt. Bill Leeper recently attended the Fernandina Beach Police Department’s inaugural Isle of Eight Flags Policemen’s Ball at the Amelia Island Plantation. This first ever Policeman’s Ball, which was the brainchild of Officer Marty Scott, was held as a fundraiser for the police department’s annual Shop With Cops program, which helps needy children during Christmas time. Local police officers take the children on a shopping spree at the local Wal-Mart.

The theme for the Ball was “We Will Never Forget,” which was a tribute to the men and women police officers who lost their lives during the terrorist attack in New York on September 11, 2001. The evening was emceed by a local TV personality and included a silent auction, dinner and ballroom dance lessons with a performance by the World’s Greatest Frank Sinatra Impersonator. Over $7,000 was raised for the Shop With Cops program.
