FHP Reaches Out to Spanish Speakers

Sergeant D.J. Torres speaks with reporter Erika Carrillo of America TeVe about the Patrol’s speed enforcement efforts.All three Spanish Language Television Networks publicized the Florida Highway Patrol’s Operation Safe Ride, Unlawful Speed initiative throughout Florida on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Spanish networks Telemundo, Univision, and America TeVe provided viewers with extensive coverage on the Florida Highway Patrol’s speed enforcement details taking place throughout the Miami area. Reporters rode with Spanish speaking troopers and filmed speed enforcement in action.

Two network reporters from Univision and Noticias 41 actually rode with Troop E’s pilot D.J. Torres to report from 2,500 feet above the Gratigny Expressway in North Miami-Dade County. Sergeant Torres narrated the story for the media, explaining how he conducts aircraft speed enforcement from the air while Lt. J.R. Moldinado explained how the violators are stopped on the ground. Spanish language news is the highest rated news at 6:00 and 11:00 PM in the Miami market.
