Trooper Uses “DAVID” To Apprehend Suspect
Recently Trooper Juan F. Quintana was notified of a road rage incident on Interstate 75 northbound in Lee County. He met with the victim and observed bleeding around the left eye and nose area. Through his questioning of the victim and his passenger, a partial tag and description was obtained for the suspect vehicle, as well as a description of the suspect. The victim explained that he had been hit in the face by a motorist when he pulled off the road to get away from him.
Trooper Quintana conducted a computer query on the many different tag configurations and came up with a total of twelve matching vehicles. A cross reference with “DAVID”, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle’s “Driver and Vehicle Information Database”, was conducted and a telephone number and local work address was obtained. When Trooper Quintana called the telephone number and a male answered, he asked if he had any knowledge of the incident. The man confirmed he was at the location and that an altercation had taken place.
Through further investigation, probable cause was met and the suspect was taken into custody for battery and transported to the Lee County Jail.
