Trooper Helps Nab Murder Suspect

Trooper IrahetaTrooper Rafael A. Iraheta learned many lessons at the FHP Academy before his recent graduation. One thing he learned is that crimes can occur anytime, anywhere, and to always be alert and ready to respond. That lesson was made evident recently in West Palm Beach when Trooper Iraheta, who had just entered a business plaza on State Road 807, was alerted by witnesses of a stabbing that had just taken place outside.

Trooper Iraheta immediately responded, finding the victim lying motionless in the parking lot. Trooper Iraheta’s first action was to summon fire rescue units for medical assistance. After securing the crime scene, Trooper Iraheta gathered information and began canvassing the nearby area for a suspect on a bicycle. Trooper Iraheta was able to locate the suspect who had been detained by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy. The suspect was arrested without further incident. Unfortunately, the victim died from the brutal attack.

Troop L District Captain Luis L. Ramil commended Trooper Iraheta on his actions by stating, “It was Trooper Iraheta’s quick response and willingness to immediately engage in this dangerous situation that led to the apprehension of a suspect involved in a violent crime. This willingness to risk his own safety in order to ensure the safety of the other police officers and the public exemplifies his dedication to the citizens of Florida.”
