Lt. Heard at the RC Monster Motorsports Spring Nationals

Lt. Heard and his FHP Monster Truck FHP Monster TruckFHP Lieutenant Zeek Heard, stationed in Troop-D, Orlando, got into radio remote control (RC) hobby/sport, in 1988, for job stress relief and for good, clean, competitive racing. A couple of years ago, he and his 15-year old son Justin started a remote control race team called “Team Heard”. They build, modify, paint and race their own RC trucks on a clay off road racetrack in their back yard. Over the years, they have gotten technical assistance and custom parts from the good folks at Central Florida Hobbies and Sackett Machine Shop in Orlando. They currently race against other race teams in a circuit called RC Monster Motorsports. In February 2005, their race circuit had the honor of displaying their talents and RC race trucks at the Clear Channel Entertainment, Super bowl of Motor Sports full size monster truck events, in Tampa and Orlando.

Team Heard showed off two of their custom painted, fully modified big block Florida Highway Patrol RC trucks. They are also equipped with blue lights and run on nitro methanol. On May 14 and 15, 2005, three members of Team Heard participated in the RC Monster Motorsports Spring Nationals event at Race Rock on International Drive in Orlando. There were about 50 registered RC trucks in the event. At the end of the event, Lt. Heard took second place in the Modified Side by Side Racing, first place in Unlimited Tractor Pulling and a first place in Heavy Weight Tug of War. Finally, in April 2005 team members, Rick Graves, Justin Heard and Lt. Heard raced at an RC Monster Motorsports event for the grand opening of a new clay racetrack. A film crew from Inside RC shot footage from the event to be broadcasted on The Outdoor Channel on cable television.

Lt. Heard’s FHP RC truck finished forth out of 48 trucks in the bling bling contest and Justin finished second in the side-by-side modified racing class. They were two of the racers interviewed for the broadcast. This Inside RC show aired on the Outdoor Channel on July 11, 14, and 16, 2005. They never thought their hobby would take them that far. Just living the dream in Troop D!
