Trooper Arrests Aggressive Driver with Gun
This story begins with an irate motorist who gets upset when he is allegedly cut off by another motorist in traffic on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County. The story involves an aggressive driver who retaliates against another motorist for some wrong-doing, either real or imagined, and escalates when one driver decides to pull a gun. This story ends, not with tragic consequences, as some of them unfortunately do, but with an arrest. This time, justice is served!
One female driver and her family were traveling down I-4 when they came to a stop in traffic. Suddenly, an aggressive driver pulled up along side the vehicle, waving a gun and yelling at her. A passenger in her vehicle called *FHP for help, reporting the motorist with the gun who had them all fearing for their lives.
Immediately, Trooper Doug Strickland was called to the scene and directed to the suspect’s location by one of our duty officers. Trooper Stickland quickly maneuvered through the heavy traffic to stop the suspect. Upon performing a felony traffic stop, he recovered the loaded gun matching the description provided by the victims. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. This arrest was the spotlight story on Bay News 9, the 24-hour news channel covering the Tampa Bay area. Trooper Strickland’s good work took a dangerous driver off the highway!
