Trooper activated . . . . again!

Trooper Free'After serving over 20 years in law enforcement with the Winter Haven Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Tim Free joined the United Nations and spent 2 years as a UN Police Officer in Kosovo. Not being able to stay out of the business, Tim was hired by the Florida Highway Patrol and graduated from the 104th Recruit School, only to be activated by the US Coast Guard on the very same day he reported for duty in the Lakeland District.

Trooper Free spent 18 weeks serving the US Coast Guard as a training officer and gunner’s mate patrolling the waters near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and Port of Tampa. Trooper Free returned to the FHP, completed his field training, and was finally released to solo patrol – only to be activated again!

Trooper Free is currently undergoing desert survival and terrorist training and is anticipating being deployed to the war ravaged area of Iraq. Free, who resides in Lake Alfred, FL, leaves behind his wife Phyllis, and children Sean, Kyle, and Shannon.

The men and women of the Florida Highway Patrol keep Trooper Free and all of our personnel who have been called to active duty in our thoughts and prayers for a safe return. The Florida Highway Patrol is extremely proud of our members serving in the military, both here at home and overseas. These men and women bring credit to our Department and themselves for their valiant efforts. Our troopers are taking the FHP’s motto, “Courtesy, Service and Protection” to new heights by serving their country with honor and protecting the lives of every American and Iraqi citizen. We wish a safe return home to all those who serve!
