Miami-Dade Trooper of the Year

Major McCarter, Trooper Rietmann, Lt. Charleston, AC Pres. Stein, Col. Knight, and HSMV Dir. DickinsonDuring their fifth annual Driver License Member and Trooper of the Year Luncheon, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) Advisory Council honored Trooper Mark Rietmann as Miami-Dade County Trooper of the year, and Lieutenant Derrick Charleston as the runner-up.

The luncheon held at Casa Juancho Restaurant in Miami was sponsored by Alex Gonzalez from Waste Management and FLHSMV’s Advisory Council.

Colonel Knight, Mark’s wife Lupe Rietmann, Trooper Rietmann, Mr. DickinsonMayor Penelas Assistant and Trooper RietmannTrooper Mark Rietmann was recognized for his life saving efforts while administering first aid to a severely injured subject involved in an off-road ATV accident.

FLHSMV’s Advisory Council awarded Trooper Rietmann with a plaque and a check for $1,000. Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas also honored Trooper Rietmann with a Proclamation making Friday, May 14, 2004, as Trooper Mark Rietmann Day. Mayor Penelas’ assistant presented the award.

Colonel Knight, Lt. Charleston, Wife Susan, Mr. DickinsonLieutenant Derrick Charleston was also recognized for his life saving efforts for administering CPR and first-aid to a heart attack victim that otherwise would not have lived. For his actions the FLHSMV’s Advisory Council awarded him with a plaque and a check for $500.
